पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।


(I)--the son of नाभाग. A devotee of Hari. The curse of दुर्वासस् proved ineffective in his case. Though lord of seven continents, अम्बरीष knew that glory was perishable. He devoted himself to the service of Hari, and got to know the power of His योग। A saintly king. Performed the अश्वमेध in a desert region so as to compel R. Sarasvati flow back towards it. Pleased with him, Hari presented his चक्र to him. He observed the द्वादसी व्रत, for a year at the end of which he gave gifts to ब्राह्- मणस् and was preparing to feed them. There then came दुर्वासस् who agreed to be fed. He went to the यमुना for bath and was engaged in contemplating on Brahman. The time for breakfast came and the sage did not return. [page१-089+ ३३] So the king broke his fast with only water and waited food expecting the sage's arrival. The sage on his return found that the king had broken his fast, and grew angry and created a flaming goddess to attack him. Hari's चक्र burnt her, turned towards the sage who ran everywhere and to the त्रिमूर्तिस् in vain. फलकम्:F1:  भा. IX. 4. १३-71; II. 7. ४४; Br. III. ३४. ३९; वा. ८८. १७१.फलकम्:/F Advised by Hari, the sage apologised to the king who prayed to the चक्र and set the sage at liberty. The king who had not taken food requested him to accept his hospitality which दुर्वासस् gladly did. Bless- ing the king, the sage went back to Brahmaloka. (III)--an अङ्गिरस and मन्त्रकृत्। Br. II. ३२. १०८; वा. ५९. ९९.
(IV)--a काद्रवेय na1ga. Br. III. 7. ३६; वा. ६९. ७३.
(V)--a son of Pulaha and क्षमा. वा. २८. २६.
