पृष्ठभागोऽयं यन्त्रेण केनचित् काले काले मार्जयित्वा यथास्रोतः परिवर्तयिष्यते। तेन मा भूदत्र शोधनसम्भ्रमः। सज्जनैः मूलमेव शोध्यताम्।

मैत्रम्, क्ली, (मित्रादागतमिति । यद्बा, मित्रस्येद- मिति । मित्र + “तस्येदम् ।” ४ । ३ । १२० । इति अण् ।) अनुराधानक्षत्रम् १७ । यथा, -- “मैत्राद्यपादे स्वपितीह विष्णु- र्व्वैष्णव्यमध्ये परिवर्त्तते च । पौष्णावसाने च सुरारिहन्ता प्रबुध्यते मासचतुष्टयेन ॥” इति तिथ्यादितत्त्वम् ॥ * ॥ (मित्रः सूर्य्यो देवतास्येति । आदित्यलोकः । यथा, महाभारते । १२ । ३१७ । ३ । “पायुनोत्क्रममाणन्तु मैत्रं स्थानमवाप्नुयात् । पृथिवीं जघनेनाथ ऊरुभ्याञ्च प्रजापतिम् ॥” यद्बा, मनुः । १२ । ७२ । “मेत्राक्षज्योतिकः प्रेतो वैश्यो भवति पूयभुक् ॥”) पुरीषोत्सर्गः । यथा, -- “ततः कल्यं समुत्थाय कुर्य्यान्मैत्रं नरेश्वर ! । नैरृत्यामिषुविक्षेपमतीत्याभ्यधिकं भुवः ॥ कल्यं उषःकालम् । मैत्रं मित्रदेवताकपायुसम्ब- न्धात् पुरीषोत्सर्गः ।” इत्याह्निकाचारतत्त्वम् ॥ अपि च । “ब्राह्म्ये मुहूर्त्ते चोत्तिष्ठेत् सुस्थो रक्षार्थमायुषः । शरीरचिन्तां निर्व्वर्त्य मैत्रं कर्म्म समाचरेत् ॥” मैत्रं मलमूत्रोत्सर्गः । इति राजवल्लभः ॥ * ॥ तत्र निषिद्धस्थानादि यथा, -- “छायाकूपनदीगोष्ठचैत्याम्भःपथिभस्मसु । अग्नौ चैव श्मशाने च विण्मूत्रे न समाचरेत् ॥ न गोमये न दृष्टे वा महावृक्षे च शाद्बले । न तिष्ठन् वा न निर्व्वासा न च पर्व्वतमस्तके ॥ न जीर्णदेवायतने न वल्मीके कदाचन । न ससत्त्वेषु गर्त्तेषु न गच्छन् वा समाचरेत् ॥ तुषाङ्गारकपालेषु राजमार्गे तथैव च । न क्षेत्रे न विले वापि न तीर्थे न चतुष्पथे ॥ नद्यां नदसमीपे वा नोषरे न पराशुचौ । न सोपानत्पादुको हि छत्री वा नान्तरीक्षके ॥ न चैवामिमुखः स्त्रीणां गुरुब्राह्मणयोर्गवाम् । न देवदेवालययोरपामपि कदाचन ॥ न ज्योतींषि निरीक्षन् वा न वाय्वभिमुखो- ऽथवा । प्रत्यादित्यं प्रत्यनलं प्रतिसोमं तथैव च ॥” इति कौर्म्मे उपविभागे १२ अध्यायः ॥ अस्य विस्तारस्तु पाद्मे उत्तरखण्डे १९० अध्याये द्रष्टव्यः ॥ * ॥ (मित्रस्य भावः । मित्र + अण् । मित्रता । यथा, मनुः । ८ । ११८ । “लोभात् मोहात् भयात् मैत्रात् कामात् क्रोधात् तथैव च । अज्ञानात् बालभावाच्च साक्ष्यं वितथमुच्यते ॥”) त्रि, मित्रसम्बन्धी ॥ (यथा, महाभारते । १२ । १४४ । २३ । “पिशुनां ये न भाषन्ते मित्रभेदकरीं गिरम् । ऋतं मैत्रञ्च भाषन्ते ते नराः स्वर्गगामिनः ॥” मित्रताशाली । यथा, श्रीमद्भगवद्गीतायाम् । १२ । १३ । “अद्वेष्टा सर्व्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुणं एवच । निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी ॥” “मित्रभावो मैत्रो मित्रतया वर्त्तते ।” इति श्रीशङ्करभाष्यम् ॥ “मैत्रः हीनेषु कृपालुः ।” इति श्रीधरस्वामी ॥ “मैत्री मित्रता तद्बान् मैत्रः ।” इति श्रीमधुसूदनसरस्वती ॥)

मैत्रः, पुं, ब्राह्मणः । इति त्रिकाण्डशेषः ॥ (यथा, मनुसंहितायाम् । २ । ८७ । “जप्येनैव तु संसिध्येद् ब्राह्मणो नात्र संशयः । कुर्य्यादन्यन्न वा कुर्य्यान् मैत्रो ब्राह्मण उच्यते ॥” “मित्रमेव मैत्रः स्वार्थे अण् ।” इति तट्टीकायां मेधातिथिकुल्लूकौ ॥ (उदयमुहूर्त्तात् तृतीय- मुहूर्त्तः । तथा च बृहस्पतिः । “आर्द्रः सार्द्रस्तथा मैत्रः शुभो वासव एव च ॥” यथा, कुमारे । ७ । ६ । “मैत्रे मुहूर्त्ते शशलाञ्छनेन योगं गतासूत्तरफल्गुनीषु ॥” वर्णशङ्करविशेषः । यथा, मनुः । १० । २३ । “वैश्यात्तु जायते व्रात्यात् मुधन्वाचार्य्य एव च । कारूषश्च विजन्मा च मैत्रः सात्वत एव च ॥”)

Belonging to a friend.

Given by a friend.

Friendly, well-disposed, amicable, kind; कुर्यादन्यन्न वा कुर्यान्मैत्रो ब्राह्मण उच्यते Ms.2. 87; अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुण एव च Bg.12.13.

Relating to the god Mitra (as a Muhūrta); Ku.7.6 (com. 'आर्द्रः सार्द्रस्तथा मैत्रः शुभो वासव एव च' इति बृहस्पति- स्मरणात्); मैत्रे मुहूर्ते प्रययौ प्रयागवनमुत्तमम् Rām.2.89.21 (com. उदयात् तृतीयमुहूर्ते).

त्रः A high or perfect Brāhmaṇa; परिनिष्ठितकार्यस्तु स्वाध्यायेनैव ब्राह्मणः । कुर्यादन्यत्र वा कुर्यान्मैत्रो ब्राह्मण उच्यते ॥ Mb.12.6.12.

त्री Friendship, good will.

Intimate connection or association, union, contact; प्रत्यूषेषु स्फुटितकमलामोदमैत्रीकषायः Me.31.

The lunar mansion called अनुराधा; तार्थयात्रां हलधरः ...... मैत्र- नक्षत्रयोगे स्म Mb.9.35.14.

त्रम् Friendship.

Voiding or evacuation of excrement; मैत्रं प्रसाधनं स्नानम् (पूर्वाह्ण एव कुर्वीत) Ms.4.152.

A prayer addressed to Mitra; अजातशत्रुः कृतमैत्रो हुताग्निः Bhāg.1.13.3.

The lunar mansion अनुराधा (मैत्रभम् in the same sense).-Comp. -चित्तम् benevolence. -नक्षत्रम् the अनुराधा constellation.
